The Washington Wolves “Rec Squad” is a recreational program that develops the skills and field hockey knowledge of players in elementary and middle school. For most children, field hockey is a sport that they are only exposed to in middle school or, for many, in high school. This recreational program is designed to introduce the sport to girls and boys in elementary and middle school, with the hope that they will learn and love the sport as much as our coaches do.

Coaches include current and former college field hockey players from top programs, including Syracuse University, Tufts University, American University, University of Maryland and Roanoke College to name a few. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to develop your field hockey skills!

The goals of the Req Squad are to:

  • Teach players the rules and build on concepts
  • Develop their fundamental skills, such as dribbling and passing, and introduce more advanced skills for both
  • Challenge them and teach them life skills and lessons, such as the values of practice, hard work, and teamwork
  • Create a fun and positive environment for them to learn field hockey

Please email us at rec@wolvesfieldhockey.com if you have any rec squad questions!

Fall 2024 Rec Squad Program (K-8th grades)

This fall, we will be hosting our 8-week OUTDOOR recreational program that will include approximately 60 minutes of skills and 30 minutes of games each week. In addition, we will hold a Play Day on on the final session (Oct. 26) that will host other teams and rec programs in the area so that our players can experience a “mini tournament.”

For new players, we may have a player train with a younger age group, and for advanced players, we may have them play with an older group so that they can get the most out of this experience and learn at a pace that matches their skill level.

We have a relationship with Longstreth Sporting Goods for a discount on all things field hockey. For brand new and young players, we recommend a basic composite stick (measured to the hip bone) to start with and Longstreth can help you. Locally, Dick’s Sporting Goods has a few sticks usually in stock as well.
